Ramping Up For a Worthy Cause

National Lumber is proud to announce that it has joined its fellow EM-NARI members in an important community project. The Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of National Association of the Remodeling Industry (EM-NARI) brought the need before members and coordinated the efforts of members who supplied and built the project. On Friday, February 19, 2010, several building supply dealers and contractors donated their time and materials to construct a handicap-accessible ramp for a homeowner in Framingham who was just recently diagnosed with MS and is now wheelchair-bound. Before, Michelle & Richard (last name not disclosed) had only the most basic sort of ramp – literally a plywood board leaning on their backyard deck. Now, they have a proper ramp with graspable handrails that will last. The project was completed on Friday, March 5th.

A piece of plywood was completely inadequate

The following companies, all NARI members, pitched in for this worthy cause:

• T.P. Walsh Construction, Inc.
• Morrison Remodeling & Repairs
• Anchor Bolt Excavating
• Goodfellas Construction Mgmt. LLC
• Mason & Mason Insurance Agency
• D’Angelo Construction
• Dr. Warm
• Resource Options, Inc.
• J.W. Construction, Inc.
• F.D. Sterritt Lumber
• S & H Construction, Inc.
• J. Plante & Sons, Inc.
• MacGregor Building & Remodeling, Inc.
• National Lumber

National has done its part by donating special white graspable handrails, as well as the hardware necessary to install them. They are aluminum reinforced vinyl handrails manufactured by Fairway Vinyl & Aluminum (retail value $3,200) and enjoy the advantages of both the strength of metal and the maintenance-free benefits of vinyl. You can learn more about this code & handicap compliant product from the manufacturer’s page here: FAIRWAY 2″ SECONDARY RAILING
