Versatex Trimboard Soffit System
Our friends at VERSATEX have developed the first complete cellular PVC soffit system, including notched fascia and frieze boards. It is both low-maintenance and has great architectural appeal. The VERSATEX Trimboard Soffit System is available in 12-in and 16-in widths and lengths of 18-ft to reduce joints. Specifically designed to minimize insect infiltration, the vented soffit has a series of 1/8-in wide grooves. This new soffit system system has is one of the more effective air-flow systems available, with a venting pattern that features 10 sq. in. of free air space per lineal ft. This product should prove to be one that architects will specify on future projects.

With the recent European hardware improvements incorporated into its design, the Revolution Tilt and Turn window is an incredibly secure and structurally sound window.
The top of the sash tilts in for secure, indirect ventilation. Thanks to the integral screen feature, you don’t have to worry about rain, wind gusts, or unwanted insects. Benjamin Obdyke HydroGap Drainable Housewrap
Known for their Cedar Breather roofing underlayment and their Home Slicker series of siding protection, Benjamin Obdyke has this year introduced the HydroGap Drainable Housewrap. This new housewrap combines a water-resistant barrier and drainage system into one application. Unlike typical housewraps, made of either woven or non-woven materials comprising one or two layers, the new HydroGap is comprised of a tri-laminate substrate with the moisture barrier protected between two non-woven layers. Benjamin Obdyke’s patent-pending spacer design on the HydroGap surface creates a 1mm gap between the structure’s sheathing and cladding materials, which helps to promote drainage.

Handi-Foam and Handi-Seal from Fomo Products now available in 12 oz sizes.
Fomo Products has recently released their Handi-Seal Window & Door Sealant and Handi-Foam Fireblock in 12-ounce sizes for smaller jobs. Previously, these products had only been available in 24-oz cans.
Handi-Seal Window & Door Sealant is Fomo’s patented closed cell, low pressure build window and door foam. The sealants can be applied with a straw applicator, a professional dispensing unit or a professional hose kit (for use with cylinders).
Fomo’s Handi-Foam products are designed to seal and fill small cracks, gaps and voids. Handi-Foam Fireblock is used by home builders and remodelers to block the passage of flame and smoke in concealed penetrations from room to room and floor to floor.

Schlage Alarmed Lock System
This year, Schlage announced the arrival of the alarmed lock system. Unlike traditional alarms, which trigger only when the door is opened, Schlage’s new alarmed lock activates on first impact. These locks can detect a wide range of actions and alert homeowners of any activity with their entry doors. For example, the lock will sound an alert if someone is kicking the door or tampering with the lock. One Housing Zone editor pointed out that this system can also help homeowners monitor their children by alerting them when the door is opened.
This product will be available in early 2012.
